The Gilmore Girls - ADOPTED

One of our most trusted volunteers found Lorelei and her daughter Rory walking alongside a major road. With no collars and bellies filled with worms, she quickly scooped them up and headed directly to our partner vet. Lorelei and Rory are a special mother-daughter pair, who were extremely bonded at first, but thrived even more after we split them up to give them individualized attention. They are an extremely fun loving pair of girls, who have big dog personalities, trapped in small dog bodies.

Meet Lorelei - ADOPTED

Lorelei is a special little dog. She is extremely loving and compassionate, and very in tune with humans. She does suffer from a little stranger danger which is easily corrected with training.

Details

Nicknames: Lorelei, Lor, Mama Bear, Lovey
Age:
1-2years (DOB: Unknown)
Weight: 22lbs
Approx Full-Grown Weight: 25lbs
Gender: Female
Breed: Rat Terrier/Who-Knows-What
Shedding: Is short/silky haired and with a healthy diet, shedding can be controlled.

Kid Tested: Kids 5+
Cat Tested: Yes
Dog Tested: Yes

Temperament

Lorelei is the perfect balance of active and cuddly. She will walk, hike, and adventure as long as you want her to, but can easily adjust to having a lazy day of snuggling in-between. She’s active, but not high energy. Those adopting should expect daily walks, adventures, and activity. She loves to cuddle with kiddos, but also respect their space and their toys. She absolutely loves other dogs, and is incredibly playful with them, but very much gives space to the dogs that don’t love her back.

She has a few things she has to work on. She can get fixated on de-stuffing a toy, so continuing to use the drop command to break her fixation will be key. She does suffer from a low growl when a person or dog come on too fast or too strong, which can absolutely be worked on with a trainer.

Needs

Lorelei will be best in a home that gives her both love and structure. She thrives with rules, and respects her pack leader. A trainer will give you the tools to both be an advocate for Lorelei, but also teach her to keep her cool when you can’t control the situation (like a crazy off-leash dog, running at her at 100mph). She does have a tendency to become a shadow to her humans when she settles in, so making sure she gets alone time in her crate during the day will go a long way to avoiding any future separation anxiety for Lorelei.

We REQUIRE that Lorelei works with one of our recommended northern trainers, implementing a balanced training method. The first session is covered by us. We have already started the foundational work of balanced training using a Starmark collar and Educator remote collar as communication tools (not corrective tools). She has thrived in this type of training! Our recommended trainers will continue to work on confidence, and get ready for off-leash fun.

Those with balanced training experience, and leash pressure/remote collar experience are preferred!

We are firm believers that the more rules you have for your dog when they are young, the more freedom they earn as they get older. So set down expectations and boundaries for your dog now with a trainer, so they can be part of all the family fun!

Those who don’t believe in rules, routine, and structure for your dog, need not apply.

Crate/Potty Training

All puppies and dogs rescued by FAVOR are crate trained, sleeping in the crate from 8pm-6am (with a potty break around 11pm), and accustomed to some day crate time as well. Puppies also understand the basic concept of peeing outside, but there is ALWAYS a transition period where crate cries and potty accidents WILL HAPPEN in a new home, as the dog transitions to new rules and ways to communicate.

All puppies and dogs rescued by FAVOR are crate trained, sleeping in the crate from 9pm-6am, and accustomed to some day crate time as well. Puppies also understand the basic concept of peeing outside, but there is ALWAYS a transition period where crate cries and potty accidents WILL HAPPEN in a new home, as the dog transitions to new rules and ways to communicate.

We always recommend keeping dogs crated during nap times, bed time, and when they are alone to protect them from danger such as chewing on cords, socks, and other objects. Foreign objects can get stuck in their stomachs which can result in a very expensive surgery. We also encourage using the crate like a bedroom for your dogs as they get older, where they can take naps, take a break from human interaction, and have a time out. More importantly, the crate provides them a safe place to go to when things get overwhelming, like a lot of people, loud noises, extreme weather. Think of the crate as their “den,” and a place for them to unwind. We all need a break sometimes!

Meet Rory - ADOPTED

Rory is a fiesty, smart, spunky little gal who will make for a great companion dog for a couple or family! She’s a great balance of energetic and playful, while also being a big cuddle bug. She’s extremely smart, and for being a street pup, she’s amazingly bold, curious, and trusting! She’s got a fiery and fiesty personality, which has been so fun to watch come alive as she’s grown!

Details

Nicknames: Rory, Roar, Spunky, Bouncy, Baby Bear, Tigger
Age:
14-16 weeks (DOB: Unknown)
Weight: 15lbs
Approx Full-Grown Weight: 20-30lbs
Gender: Female
Breed: Rat Terrier/Who-Knows-What
Shedding: Is short haired and with a healthy diet, shedding can be controlled.

Kid Tested: Kids 5+
Cat Tested: Yes
Dog Tested: Yes

Temperament

Rory is your typical puppy. Equal parts playful and cuddly. She’s doing wonderfully with crate training, sleeping from 8pm-7am with just one quick pee break, and has adjusted to a great daytime nap schedule. She’s rocking leash training as well, and is enjoying exploring her new surroundings. Rory is very playful with other dogs, and for such a young puppy, she’s pretty respectful of adult dogs space. She does occasionally get impatient if a dog no longer plays with her, and starts to bark at them to instigate play but can quickly be settled down. She adores kids, and would be a great family addition.

Needs

Because Rory is incredibly smart, she will rule the house if she is not trained properly. We can not express enough the important of using the crate and professional training, especially with a small and sassy gal like Rory! This puppy will be best suited to an to an active family or couple, willing to give them regular walks, runs, trails, and adventures, and plenty of playtime. They should continue socialization with other dogs through puppy play dates. Adopters should be ready to start PROFESSIONAL training with one of our recommended trainers around five-six months old to continue proper dog socialization, work on nice leash manners, and heel-side walking, structured walking, place command, and prepare for off-leash fun.

We are firm believers that the more rules you have for your dog when they are young, the more freedom they earn as they get older. So set down expectations and boundaries for your dog now with a trainer, so they can be part of all the family fun!

Those who don’t believe in rules, routine, and structure for your dog, need not apply.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, we will only consider applicants where one adult has a more flexible schedule, as puppies are a lot of work, and will require potty breaks, exercise, training and continued human and dog socialization as they grow up.
