Donut - ADOPTED
Meet Donut
Donut is approximately 10-12 months old, and a wonderfully loving min-pin/pomeranian mix. She was found on the streets of Alabama and brought into a local shelter. She was struggling quite a bit at the shelter, so we swooped in to give her an environment she could grow and thrive. Make no mistake, despite Donut’s small size, she is NOT a lap dog. She loves long walks, trail walks, hikes, and plenty of playtime. Once she warms up to people, she is a pile of love and mush for them. She’s smart and saavy, and ready for a lifetime of adventure!

Temperament
Donut is a wonderful cuddly, playful, active puppy. She’s playful with people she knows, and loves other dogs. At the mere size of 12lbs, she plays like she’s a 50lb dog. She is a velcro dog, following her human’s footsteps. She’s ready for walking on trails, adventures in the mountains, learning new tricks, and giving and getting lots of love.
It is likely Donut had some bad experiences in the car and with people when she was young. She has overcome her fear of car rides, but she is still hesitant and reactive towards new people coming in her safe places (yard, home, crate). On walks, she tends to just avoid new people, giving herself space by hiding behind her person. Once she feels comfortable and safe, she is the biggest pile of love and mush.
Needs
Donut would do best in quiet home with a kid-less couple or young retirees. Donut is nervous around new people, so a home WITHOUT a lot of coming and going would be best. She will melt at your feet once she knows you, but first meetings can be tough on her. She’d LOVE an older dog-sibling, she loves to play with dogs big and small.
Make no mistake, Donut is NOT a lap dog. She loves long walks, trail walks, hikes, and plenty of playtime. She’s not high energy, but she is active and super playful. Donut thrives best in a routine, days with a schedule and routine walks and adventures.
We will require that Donut works with one of our recommended trainers, implementing a balanced training method. We have already started the foundational work of balanced training with her. She walks wonderfully at your heel-side using the proper tools. Purely positive training is not a good fit for this nervous nelly. We’ve seen her confidence grow in balanced training, so we want her to continue to thrive. Our recommended trainers will continue to to work on her confidence and calmness around new people, and get her ready for off-leash fun.
Training
All dogs rescued by FAVOR are crate trained, sleeping in the crate from 9pm-6am, and accustomed to some day crate time as well. Dogs are also potty trained with doggie door access. There is ALWAYS a transition period where crate cries and potty accidents WILL HAPPEN in a new home, as the dog transitions to new rules and ways to communicate.
As with ANY and ALL dogs, this dog would benefit GREATLY from professional training to continue to work on good leash manners, place command, and off-leash recall. We always recommend keeping young dogs crated when they are alone to keep them putting themselves in danger (chewing on cords, eating things that can get stuck in their stomachs, etc…)
Vetting
All dogs rescued by FAVOR are spayed/neutered and microchipped before adoption, as well as vaccinated for rabies, bortedella, DA2PL (distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, leptospirosis and parvovirus). They are up-to-date on flea/tick topical treatment, heartworm medication, and de-worming treatment (if necessary).
Puppies WILL require DA2PL 3rd booster shots when age appropriate (between 14-18 weeks of age) at the expense of the adopter. It is also recommended to get the LYME-LEPTO combination vaccine in New England at the expense of the adopter.
