IZZIE’S ADOPTION IS PENDING!!

Meet Izzie

Izzie, a part papillon, part wolf (?) mix, was surrendered to us by a family that found her, but couldn’t care for her properly. She was adopted by a family, and returned after proving to be a wrong fit for the family.

She is a feisty one year old, who is active, loves to play with dogs of ALL sizes and humans of ALL age and size. She loves to play fetch and is ready to enjoy the trails. Despite her size, she is NOT a lap dog. While she loves lap cuddles and snuggles, she also needs exercise and playtime.

Temperment

Izzie is pretty fun loving, but also frisky and feisty. She likes humans and dogs, but has not been cat tested yet. It is clear she has never had training her her past life so she thinks she is the boss. She will need someone willing to set rules and boundaries, which will ultimately lead to more freedom and fun for her.

Needs

Izzie will be best suited to an active single person, couple, or family, willing to give them regular walks and adventures, and plenty of playtime. They should continue socialization with other dogs through classes or playdates. Since being returned by her first adopter, her fabulous foster Mom has used balanced training method, and she is thriving and quickly overcoming some bad habits. We will require adopters continue this methodology with our list of recommended trainers to continue working on nice leash manners, place command, and prepare for off-leash fun.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, we will only consider applicants where one adult has a more flexible schedule, as young dogs are a lot of work, and will require potty breaks, exercise, training and continued human and dog socialization as they grow up.

Training

All dogs rescued by FAVOR are crate trained, sleeping in the crate from 9pm-6am, and accustomed to some day crate time as well. Dogs are also potty trained with doggie door access. There is ALWAYS a transition period where crate cries and potty accidents WILL HAPPEN in a new home, as the dog transitions to new rules and ways to communicate.

As with ANY and ALL dogs, this dog would benefit GREATLY from professional training to continue to work on good leash manners, place command, and off-leash recall. We always recommend keeping young dogs crated when they are alone to keep them putting themselves in danger (chewing on cords, eating things that can get stuck in their stomachs, etc…)

Vetting

All dogs rescued by FAVOR are spayed/neutered before adoption, as well as vaccinated for rabies, bortedella, DA2PL (distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, leptospirosis and parvovirus). Puppies WILL require DA2PL 3rd booster shots when age appropriate (between 14-18 weeks of age). It is also recommended to get the lyme vaccine in New England. All dogs and up to date on heart worm, flea, and tick treatment.
