Edie - ADOPTED
Meet the Puppy
Edie was found in really rough shape, and immediately brought to a local area vet. The vet team reached out to local rescues for help, and we swooped in. Edie was severely underweight, fur was missing from half of her body, and her skin was attacking her from the inside out. Due to the nature of her contagious skin condition, we were able to quarantine her at the Humane Society, where she got the necessary medical treatments for her skin under vet supervison, fattened up with some delicious food, and spoiled rotten by all the staff who just wanted to dote on her. Once she was cleared by the vet, she went straight to at-home foster care to get more attention, love, and structure from our fearless fosters!

Temperament
Edie, Edie, Edie. Edie is short for Edith, which means war, love, and happiness. We thought the name fit, and hope it sticks, because we like to think she went through war, but has started the journey to find love and happiness. Despite whatever abuse or neglect Edie suffered, it is remarkable that she still has the capacity to love humans. She is a little shy and aloof at first meet, avoiding eye contact and any attention aimed at her, but warms up eventually to any person, big or small. She absolutely LOVES kids. She just needs some time to acclimate to new humans, and once she does she comes back for more and more affection. She will probably never be the dog that runs to the door to say hi to everyone, but will definitely be obsessed and devoted to her favorite humans. And the feeling is mutual, everyone who meets Edie is in love and obsessed with her.
Edie also got to spend a week with our southern trainer, and we learned that Edie is quite studious! She loves to learn and have structure, thrives with clear rules and direction, and achieved so much in her short time at school! With the right tools, she walks at your heel side on leash, loves playing “musical mats” while working on her “place” command, and was just starting some off-leash work with the e-collar (as purely a communication tool), a must for this nose-to-ground type of gal. Edie is not super food motivated, she could really take or leave food, aside for an occasional spoon of peanut butter, but she is motivated by her teacher! Don’t get me wrong, she still has some confidence building to do ahead, but we can’t wait to watch this girl thrive further in training and continue to build her confidence up. She’s already blown us away in what she can do.
Aside from school, Edie loves a good recess. She is still a puppy at heart in every way, and she absolutely LOVES to play with other dogs. She’s respectful if they don’t want to, and will move on to the next playmate. We would love to see her with a confidence older sibling, or canine friends for her to continue to hang out with on occasion!
Since Edie has had the opportunity to spend some time with our southern trainer prior to her arrival up north. We WOULD LOVE that Edie work with one of our recommended northern trainers initially, implementing a balanced training method. WHY? Because we have already started implement the foundational elements of this style of training, and she’s done amazingly well. The first session is covered by us, and our recommended trainers will continue to work on confidence, manners, reliability, and FUN.
Needs
Edie is NOT a city dog! While we think she’ll be great exploring cities from time to time after she continues to build up confidence, her personality is meant for more suburban or rural living!
Edie needs an to an active family or couple, willing to give them regular long walks, runs, trails, and adventures, and plenty of playtime. They should continue socialization with other dogs through puppy play dates.
Edie needs a back yard. Traditional fencing is NOT required.
Edie would love a dog siblings or close friends. She’s super playful, and happy to be friends with dogs of all size. She loves to cuddle with her fellow dog friends.
Adopters should be ready to start PROFESSIONAL training with one of our recommended trainers to continue proper dog socialization, work on nice leash manners using leash pressure, and heel-side walking, structured walking, place command, and prepare for off-leash remote collar fun.
As an organization, we prefer balanced training, and not “purely positive training.” Balanced training strikes a happy balance between a TON of positive rewards, but also rules, structure, and specific tools to set tone and boundaries for our dogs. We are firm believers that the more rules you have for your dog when they are young, the more freedom they earn as they get older. So set down expectations and boundaries for your dog now with a trainer and the right tools, so they can be part of all the family fun! Those with balanced training experience, and experience with slip lead/training collar/prong/remote collar as communication tools are preferred but not required!
Those who don’t believe in rules, routine, and structure for your dog, need not apply.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, we will only consider applicants where one adult has a more flexible schedule, as puppies are a lot of work, and will require potty breaks, exercise, training and continued human and dog socialization as they grow up.

Crate/Potty Training
All puppies and dogs rescued by FAVOR are crate trained, sleeping in the crate from 8pm-6am (with a potty break around 11pm), and accustomed to some day crate time as well. Puppies also understand the basic concept of peeing outside, but there is ALWAYS a transition period where crate cries and potty accidents WILL HAPPEN in a new home, as the dog transitions to new rules and ways to communicate.
We always recommend keeping dogs crated during nap times, bed time, and when they are alone to protect them from danger such as chewing on cords, socks, and other objects. Foreign objects can get stuck in their stomachs which can result in a very expensive surgery. We also encourage using the crate like a bedroom for your dogs as they get older, where they can take naps, take a break from human interaction, and have a time out. More importantly, the crate provides them a safe place to go to when things get overwhelming, like a lot of people, loud noises, extreme weather. Think of the crate as their “den,” and a place for them to unwind. We all need a break sometimes!
