Meet the Puppy

Miss Billie was found and brought to the Humane Society. She was having a tough time in the shelter environment, so they reached out to us to bring her into a foster care environment. She has thrived in foster care, quickly coming out of her shell, and shown us she has an adventurous, funny, smart, and loyal personality.

Temperament

Billie is approximately 5-6 years old, and a wonderfully loyal Jack Russell terrier mix. She wants desperately to be someone’s side kick and shadow, and come on all the adventures (just make sure she has a booster seat for the car so she can look out the window with you). She acclimates easily to new settings, and is quickly trusting of humans.

She’s a little shy around new dogs she doesn’t know, looking for a little space to hide behind your legs. Once she gets to know a pack, she loves to just hang out and run around alongside a crew, but is not much of a wrestler. She’s also a little shy around new experiences and loud noises, but that shyness goes away once she starts trusting her new leader. Then she’ll walk through fire if it means she’s following her human.

While Billie has no problem with children, we would love to see her in a quieter house where she can get all the attention without constant kid chaos.

Those with balanced training experience, and slip lead/training collar/prong collar/remote collar experience are preferred!

As an organization, we prefer balanced training over positive only, which is balanced between a ton of positive rewards, but also expectations, rules, and structure to set boundaries. We are firm believers that the more rules you have for your dog when they are young, the more freedom they earn as they get older. So set down expectations and boundaries for your dog now with a trainer and the right tools, so they can be part of all the family fun!

Those who don’t believe in rules, routine, and structure for your dog, need not apply.

Needs

  • Billie needs regular activity. Don’t let her size fool you, she likes long walks, adventuring on trails, and chasing bunnies. She is hardly a lap dog, but after an adventure, she’ll happily snooze at your feet, in your lap, or next to you on the couch.

  • Billie loves people. She’s a loyal shadow who will happily follow you around all day. Little breeds tend to be very clingy to their humans, so someone who works from home (indefinitely) or retired would be the best fit for this personality.

  • Billie would love a backyard to chase bunnies, but not required. Someone willing to take her on trail walks to fuel that adventurous spirit will do.

  • Most importantly, Billie needs love and boundaries. These little terriers tend to think they are the boss of the house, but they thrive even more with an owner who takes the lead.

Crate/Potty Training

All puppies and dogs rescued by FAVOR are crate trained, sleeping in the crate from 9pm-6am, and accustomed to some day crate time as well. Puppies also understand the basic concept of peeing outside, but there is ALWAYS a transition period where crate cries and potty accidents WILL HAPPEN in a new home, as the dog transitions to new rules and ways to communicate.

We always recommend keeping dogs crated during nap times, bed time, and when they are alone to protect them from danger such as chewing on cords, socks, and other objects. Foreign objects can get stuck in their stomachs which can result in a very expensive surgery. We also encourage using the crate like a bedroom for your dogs as they get older, where they can take naps, take a break from human interaction, and have a time out. More importantly, the crate provides them a safe place to go to when things get overwhelming, like a lot of people, loud noises, extreme weather. Think of the crate as their “den,” and a place for them to unwind. We all need a break sometimes!
